Designer Notes
Our clients a retired couple living in Waikanae wanted a more modern, and functional Kitchen, the existing kitchen was an original and was at least 20 years old.
The brief was for a kitchen that would serve to not only be practical, like any new kitchen, Also to add value to their home. A large built in corner pantry took up a sizeable part of the kitchen, using valuable space on the wall to the immediate left of the pantry. My clients wanted this removed and enlisted my expertise in designing a more workable, practical use of this space.
Our clients a delightful English couple, had also bought with them a crockery set which was special to them, and the request was for a cabinet to house this. The overall kitchen style my clients wanted was a Satin Lacquer Vertical Groove door, the benchtops chosen were Laminate with a Timber front edge profile, to enhance and add a break to the solid block of colour that would otherwise dominate.
A feature of this kitchen was also the walk in return pantry, it allows for less space than a corner pantry, whilst also enabling the designer the ability to butt other cabinets hard against it, thereby utilizing valuable space to the wall to the immediate left of the pantry.
Designing as a walk in means that the client is able to reach an otherwise awkward corner.
A number of drawers were also added for ease of use.The glass cabinetry with a colonial bar door enables my clients to view their special crockery display. The Colonial bar glazed wall cabinets, reflect main interior glass doors within the house. A timber edging was chosen for the benchtops to eliminate the harshness that a square edge would have presented due to the curved breakfast return area. The overall result is a stunning kitchen which enhances and makes full use of the space provided.
