Designer notes
This charming home in Raumati was a delight to design a new kitchen for, with awesome gardens surrounding this older style home.
The kitchen was typical of the era, a dark walnut veneer, with an eye level oven housed in what is best described as wasted space, taking up valued cabinet and benchtop space.
A large pantry also inhibited the view of the entry and gardens. My client also disliked the limited overhang on the island return, more light into the area was also a must.
Our brief was therefore to create a kitchen space which was lighter in hue more user friendly, with practical use of storage and working areas.
To give more light, a large pantry was replaced with a smaller one and and angled open shelving was placed at the end of the wall, which enabled my clients to view entry and gardens, also providing a practical area for telephone, books and related items.
A purpose built oil pullout was also incorporated into the design.
Limited island return area meant clever use of design, these drawers served a dual purpose, cutlery and crockery are housed there.
Therefore the finished product more bench space, practical use of storage and work spaces.
Our client was still liked the timber look therefore lighter maple doors and panels with accents of Tobacco were chosen, glass doors, and open shelving add a more spacious feel.
The waterfall edged benchtops also added a touch of class, extra overhang was also added, giving more useable space than was previously the case.
